4th Annual POPS Concert and Fundraiser

In May 2004, a composer named Nobuo Uematsu joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic for a single performance of his most famous work. The show sold out in three days. In fact, there was almost a riot at the box office when people couldn’t get tickets.

What was the music? Uematsu’s soundtrack for the smash hit video game Final Fantasy.

When a soundtrack is recorded by a major orchestra and is nominated for a Grammy award, you know there is something special about the music. With advances in technology, video game music has now grown to the same breadth and complexity as film scores. To start our season with gusto, our opener highlights the best of both worlds.

Miriam Grisso

Video game music has exploded into the concert world with thousands of people, both young and not-so-young, attending concerts by world-class orchestras to hear the music from Halo, Civilization IV, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and more. Experience music that is powerful, heroic, nuanced, melancholy, and mysterious. Bring your children, your grandchildren…bring yourself!

Alba Franco-Cancél

In a nod to Hollywood and its rich history of melody, our principal flutist, Miriam Grisso, performs the love theme from Cinema Paradiso, and Puerto Rican soprano Alba Franco-Cancél offers songs from The Wizard of Oz, Funny Girl, The Music Man, and others.
